This place is recommended by my best friend. She always comes here if her family crave Mexican food. I love the restaurant's colorful decoration and music selection as I walked in. We were there on a Tuesday and cannot help it to get tacos. I got Al pastor, cecina and tamale. My friend got fish. Everything came out fast. It was a good restaurant overall. We all got a round of drinks. The price is very reasonable. Would go back again

Great food, margaritas and atmosphere is good. Service was good although she was busy in the bar area. I haven't experienced a better Mexican restaurant in the Toledo area. Papa's Locos is a must try.

I had the pleasure of trying this restaurant back when it was just a food truck over by UT. I got word of it expanding into a full-service establishment in the old Dolly & Joe's building off South Reynolds, and have been there ten times since. Curiosity led me to try a couple trending items at many mexican restaurants and stars of the show at El Viejon, the quesa birria taco and birria pizza. The wonerfully flavored broth and fresh ingredients like shredded beef, mozzarella, and cilantro combine to make for a memorable treat. While the quesa taco is a small sample - get at least three to fill you up - the pizza is a gargantuan affair sure to feed two to four people. My suggestion is: ask for extra broth cups. Can't get enough of that. Yummy stuff. Street tacos here are also a winner; always fresh tortillas with a big variety of meats. I'm not into exotic options like lengua, tripe, etc. but I'm sure some people are. The more choices the merrier. I've tried steak, beef, chicken, shrimp, fish and carnitas and settled on the latter as my favorite. Carnitas anything here is fantastic. You get a big portion of super succulent pork. Order the supreme version to add lettuce and sour cream. They have a ton of entrees, too, and I've barely scratched the surface. I tried the taquitos mexicanos and speedy gonzalez. The pollo con arroz is really good. It's basic... queso over chicken and rice. You can mix it up and add shrimp and steak for an upcharge. Even a simple thing like rice here is outstanding, possibly the best I've had at any mexican restaurant. My crew gets chips and queso every trip and they are not stingy with the size. A regular seems to be plenty for one meal. Get a large if you absolutely love queso or want to have it for a couple meals. My only complaints would be the refried beans have tiny red peppers - prefer completely unspicy beans. And the ground beef is seasoned with onions and tomatoes (or is it also peppers?), so those are a pass for me. Counter staff at El Viejon are friendly and helpful. In the times we've visited, they hit about 98% accuracy and always have it together in a flash. Place your order and start driving! We've only dined in once so far, but dining room business seems steady ranging from busy to packed. El Viejon has become one of our new favorites. Give this place a try!

I had already been a fan of the food truck, so was eager to try the restaurant. We were seated quickly and chips and salsa immediately appeared. Margaritas were tasty and the fresh fruit garnish was appreciated. Our food came out lightning fast. Most of the menu is similar to the other million Mexican places in Toledo with some different items, but I'm not sure I can depart from the amazing quesabirria. The hot sauce on the side was not your ordinary salsa verde/roja and had some tasty back-heat.

FANTASTIC Mexican restaurant. From the birria to the diabla sauce, the fresh lime margaritas, and excellent ceviche and tequila selection, to the incredibly attentive staff, I couldn't be happier with this restaurant. They also have a food truck, which I haven't tried, but this review is for their location on Reynolds Ave. opened about March 2023 (the old San Marcos location). Just go. You won't regret it.
